There are a number of underlying reasons of why pharmacists are still struggling with their proffesion in Pakistan and newsflash they can be solved.
PROBLEMS WITH THE PHARMACY COMMUNITY
The biggest problem with the pharmacy community is lack of appreiciation and motivation, how do you expect to be successful if you have 0% of motivation in you? you need to be motivated and ambitious to keep moving forward
LACK OF APPRECIATION
I guess i have only came across 8% people who wholeheartedly appreciate their fellows and colleagues, neither have i ever seen more than 5% of teachers telling their pharmacy students that they will grow up to be successful and can run their own bussiness someday or how many fields they can join...
The most common thing i do see in my surrounding is everyone discouraging you, telling you your not worth anything and making sure you feel like a failure. How do you even expect to promote your field when you don't even want anyone to rise and shine ? or even join your field?
LACK OF MOTIVATION
Lack of motivation is mostly present in a number or senior pharmacists, who make sure they suck all the proffesional joy out of the life of juniors, I mean fine in their time i guess they didn't get a good job but time has changed , people are joining pharmacy because they want to... not because they dont have any other options left.
LACK OF GUIDANCE
Because of the lack of guidance from senior proffessionals, once pharmacists complete their degree they have no idea what to do, they don't know the oppurtunities they have, or which jobs they can join or what they have actually accomplished,
TEACHERS
They aren't actually a problem if they are giving you the solution, if a teacher is teaching a class of 80 and is telling the students that at the end of your degree the only thing you can do is open a shop, then i guess he/she should be fired on the spot. Its a teachers responisibility to appreciate students and to let them know how useful this field is, I havent seen (and this doesn't mean that they don't exists it means that i just wasn't fortunate enough to come across them) any teacher who told their student that they could join drug designing or could go for cosmotology or they have a future in oncology or clinical pharmacy or they can get a job at RECKITT AND BENCKISER . Just saying that their is a major lack of knowledge regarding this field.
UNITY
The biggest problem, no unity at all, if one pharmacist takes a stand i don't see anyone following him/her, Yes i do see a number of people backstabbing and proving them wrong, No one is interested if anyone is working for the community , they are only interested in WHO is working for this community and if its not them whose getting the appreciation and the cash then they find no reason to provide any means of support.
ORGANIZATIONS AND OFFICIAL BODIES
I'm not saying that they are dormant and they aren't doing anything at all, i just want to point the fact that they arent doing enough whether its the fact that pharmacists arent forcing them to do so, or the fact that they are not appreciated enough, The thing is if you have power to change the system you are supposed to change the system!
All this is however my personal opinion, these problems do exist and i don't think they will auto solve themselves and then theres the fact that you have to learn to determine the difference between pharm D , D pharm and B pharmacy. Regonize you community and solve their problems if someone with a B pharmacy degree shows up with the issue that no one calls them a doctor then i don't think their is anything to be done about it, except the fact that you can ask them to enroll in a Pharm D or M PHARM program.
Recognize who you are, what you can do and how you can make a difference in this world.
